Tips For A Better Workspace

  1. Air circulation

  2. Declutter spaces

  3. Keep stuff low and close to the ground

  4. Fresh room scent

  5. Leave workspace once in a while

I’m sure everyone was just so happy being trapped in their rooms or apartments without any human contact for the past couple of months. I was as well, until I realized that I should probably start doing something with my life. At least one thing good came out of being trapped inside my room. Being stuck in my room when doing work or assignments during quarantine has helped me create a space to maximize my comfort and usability.

Air Circulation

This is probably one you haven’t really thought about until you start feeling suffocated and claustrophobic. Fresh or clean air helps that a lot. If you have a window that you can open, definitely leave it open for an hour or two at least during the day. For those of you living in the city, I realize that opening the window will probably give you a higher risk of cancer than keeping it shut. So, I recommend an air purifier. Obviously, the higher the price point = the better the quality. This one is from Intellipure, and it’s probably one of the higher quality ones (which is why it costs you a limb). However, in the long run, it’s for your health, and I would rather invest some money to live a healthier life than not do that and suffer from it in your 50s.

Declutter Spaces

Honestly after I tried minimalism for a bit, I wanted to personalize my space. The problem is that I started stacking more shit on my desk and shelves. It was organized in my eyes, but I realized how complicated it looked after I decluttered. I didn’t really see a problem with this, but for some reason, I wasn’t being productive for a while. I felt trapped, especially during quarantine, and I wanted to just clear my mind. Well, I realized that the best thing to do is to clear the surfaces of my room, and I suddenly felt clarity in my mind. It’s funny how the space around you can make you feel.

Also, just clear those stuffy drawers and re-organize because I’m telling you that it’s going to be a lot easier to find that cable or that pen for a task.

Keep Stuff Low and Close To The Ground

Especially if you live in an apartment with low ceilings, it’s going to start feeling really cramped after a couple weeks in quarantine. Personally, I had a tall book shelf in the corner of my room since my family moved into this house. It wasn’t actually me who was the one who decided to take it out; my mom actually told me that I should get rid of it because it makes the room “look so much smaller.” I didn’t really see it as a problem, but as soon as I took it out it felt like my room was a lot bigger than what it actually is. Also, having a shelf low to the ground makes it easier for me to organize my stuff personally. For me, it’s easier to see something all at once if it’s horizontal rather than vertical, if that makes sense.

Keep It Smelling Nice

Working in the same space for hours isn’t the best, but working in the same space for hours with a bad smell makes it worse. Keep a simple candle or incense diffusers to just purge your room first of the smell that it has. Afterwards, I would just maintain it with a simple spray like a room spray. I love just the lavender floral water from Highland Springs Ranch & Inn or a simple room spray from Meyer’s. Either way keep it smelling fresh.

Leave Workspace Once In A While

It seems a little bit weird to tell you to leave your workspace after telling you tips to make it better. However, I know that changing up the environment in which you work produces some good stuff in your brain that makes you more productive, so just do it. Go to another room or to your dining table or to your backyard. Just change it once in a while to keep yourself moving.
